KUALA LUMPUR, 15 September 2023 – NS BlueScope Malaysia, a leading producer of coated steel in Malaysia, is pleased to announce the appointment of Wong Sen Meng as the new Country President of NS BlueScope Malaysia.
Sen Meng will oversee operations in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei. With her appointment, she brings a wealth of experience, extraordinary visions, and resilience to steer the business forward through unprecedented challenges.
Commenting on her appointment, Sen Meng said “I am deeply honoured to take on the Country President of the NS BlueScope Malaysia, and continue to serve together with our extraordinary team, stakeholders, esteemed Board of Directors and business partners.”
Having joined NS BlueScope in 2015, Sen Meng has held pivotal roles within the organisation, most recently leading the Regional Supply Chain and Sourcing function since 2019. Her leadership has been instrumental in aligning both regional and country Supply Chain and Procurement teams with the company’s long-term strategies, with a strong focus on digitalisation and innovation.
“We are committed to advancing our mission with ambitious plans to enhance efficiency through digitalisation, prioritise customer-centric approaches, and leverage our company’s outstanding business practices, culture, and expertise in the coated steel industry within the region,” said Sen Meng, the Country President of NS BlueScope Malaysia.
The company has outlined several strategic priorities for 2023, with the primary focus being to reaffirm our commitment to high-quality products and consistent delivery on our promises, thereby reinforcing our position as a trusted provider of long-lasting, dependable solutions in the market in light of rapidly evolving market dynamics.
To achieve these goals, significant investments have been allocated for enhancing our production line. Technological and performance improvements will be implemented across various aspects of our product offerings, underscoring our dedication to craftsmanship and innovation, ultimately leading to unparalleled durability, extend warranties, and a higher level of quality consistency that sets us apart in the market.
In addition to operational enhancements, our talent acquisition strategy will prominently feature upskilling and cross-skilling initiatives for our staff, not only to efficiently manage our upgraded production lines but to build their career paths in the age of digitalisations.
“Expanding upon our regional strength, forging connections with customers across the ASEAN region and along key supply chain routes, we have one of the deepest and wide footprints in Southeast Asia among leading regional steel manufacturers, and we differentiate ourselves by offering deep sector-specific knowledge,” added Sen Meng.
Pursuing its long-term climate change goal, announced three years ago by its global headquarters in Australia, NS BlueScope Malaysia is resolutely committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its operations by 2050.
To realise this vision, NS BlueScope Malaysia has initiated various sustainability projects. These efforts began with internal awareness campaigns and gradually evolved into environmentally conscious initiatives within its manufacturing facilities, such as rainwater harvesting, solar street lights, wastewater treatment, and energy efficiency optimisation.
The company has commendably reached a significant milestone by launching NS BlueScope SunField, a vast solar farm at its Kapar manufacturing plant, covering an area equivalent to six football fields. This solar farm is poised to power around half of the manufacturing plant’s energy needs, utilising clean and renewable solar energy.
These green investments, coupled with thousands of man-hours, are geared towards introducing low-carbon steel products into the market, supporting Malaysia’s transition to a sustainable future, with an ambitious target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030.
“While NS BlueScope Malaysia acknowledges that transitioning to low-carbon business operations depends on factors like affordability, commercial viability, and feasibility, we believe that together with our stakeholders, we can significantly contribute to the transition towards a low-carbon future by embracing greener solutions with reduced carbon footprints.”
“As clean energy continues to gain resilience, accessibility, and cost-effectiveness, we have an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on sustainability,” added Sen Meng.
