Celebrating “Beautiful Strength” in Steel Architecture

NS BlueScope Malaysia is proud to announce the winners of the inaugural BlueScope Steel Architectural Awards Malaysia 2024 (BSAA MY). Launched on 15 June 2024, the BSAA MY aimed to unearth architectural excellence, recognizing projects that push the boundaries of steel applications and design innovation.

Under the theme of “Beautiful Strength,” the awards celebrated the power and aesthetics of steel in architecture, bringing forward extraordinary examples of sustainability, creativity, and innovation. Five main categories represented the core pillars of the event: Industrial, Commercial, Residential, Institutional & Others, and the special “Lasting Beauty of COLORBOND® steel” award, showcasing historical buildings featuring COLORBOND® steel’s durability and aesthetic appeal.

Recognizing Excellence in Steel Architecture

The BSAA MY attracted numerous outstanding submissions, with projects reflecting remarkable achievements in steel architecture across Malaysia. The winners have demonstrated excellence in design, community impact, innovation, and sustainability, setting a new industry benchmark for the creative use of steel. 

The awards were announced during BlueScope’s Annual Customer Appreciation Dinner, COLORBOND® Night 2024, where industry leaders and partners gathered to celebrate the best of steel architecture in Malaysia.

These winners were carefully selected by a distinguished jury panel, led by prominent architect Ar. Dr. Tan Loke Mun, Director of Archicentre Sdn Bhd. Joining him were AR. Dr. Serena Hijjas, Director of Hijjas Kasturi Associates, Adjunct Professor Ar. Adrianta bin Aziz, Director of AR RAD Architects PLT, Mr. Alan Koh, Director of Star Hospitality Luxe Sdn Bhd, and Mr. Robert Nation, Director of Nation Architects, Australia. 

Each entry was evaluated against four key criteria: design excellence, impact on the community and humanity, innovation in steel usage, and sustainability.

A Step Towards Regional Recognition

In addition to national recognition, the Gold winners in each category will advance to the ASEAN stage of the BlueScope Steel Architectural Awards 2024, where they will compete with winners from Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia for the prestigious title of Ultimate Winner.

The BSAA MY not only celebrates the pinnacle of architectural achievement in Malaysia but also aims to establish industry benchmarks, promote best practices, and share knowledge in steel building applications, reinforcing the role of steel in innovative and sustainable design.
